Sustainability Certification Process

STEP 1:
MAKE A COMMITMENT

When you sign the STTN Pledge, you are committing to sustainable practices. You are joining a group of sustainable travel & transportation leaders – it’s also an opportunity for members to work together. As part of the STTN community, we partner with our members to develop and share new products and services that support positive change in the travel industry and the communities in which we live and work.

STEP 2:
ANNUAL SELF-EVALUATION

Members must complete the STTN self-assessment report to complete their first year’s membership requirements. The STTN self-assessment questionnaire is for each member’s internal use. It provides a baseline on where you are in your sustainability commitments and helps you understand where you are on your journey. Self-assessment is a confidential process, so thoughtful and honest responses will benefit you the most. You are now ready to begin your journey to STTN Certification with verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.

STEP 3:
BEGIN THE STTN ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Measuring and verifying your carbon footprint is the first step in achieving STTN Sustainability Certification. STTN makes it easy to gather data on your business activities, fleet (for transportation providers), energy and fuel use, and business travel information. Using this data and our reporting software, you can establish your “baseline” carbon footprint and complete 3rd party certification. Read more about STTN Environmental Sustainability Certifications

STEP 4:
DEVELOP A SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL MINDSET

The sustainability agenda is here to stay. Climate change, gender equality, health, social equity, and inclusion are issues that affect us all, impacting human well-being and economic stability. To help our members cut through the complexity of sustainability, STTN has created online training programs, workshops, and networking opportunities to help our members become the kind of leaders who can be relied upon to guide their organizations and our industry toward more sustainable practices. Participation in our training programs and workshops is open to all members and integral to STTN certification.

STEP 5:
CERTIFICATION

STTN certifies travel industry suppliers that have demonstrated their commitment to using their business as a platform for environmental and social change. STTN also certifies travel buyers that have demonstrated their commitment to using their purchasing power to develop “values-driven” sourcing of travel services. The requirements for certification vary with the type of supplier and buyer. For the specific requirements of certification.

STEP 6:
COLLABERATION. CREATING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

STTN’s annual conference provides an important forum for sharing successes, best practices, and innovative ideas. Each participant’s results, as well as certification status, are also published in our periodic performance reports on the STTN website under the participant’s profile as well as on the Results page.
